About Us
Pentathlon GB is the national governing body (NGB) for Modern Pentathlon.
Modern Pentathlon first appeared at the Olympics in 1912, the sport currently comprises of five different disciplines: swimming, fencing, horse riding (show jumping), pistol shooting and running. The last two disciplines have been combined in recent Olympic Games to what is known as the Laser Run.
Pentathlon GB’s vision is to deliver a sustainable, innovative and inclusive organisation that supports existing members and inspires new participants to take up the sport, whilst delivering world-class athletes. Pentathlon GB aims to be a recognised leader in its field, setting new standards and inspiring its community and beyond.
Modern Pentathlon will be adopting a new competition structure post Paris 2024, with obstacle course being added to the sports disciplines. This new-look competition structure is scheduled to be confirmed by the International Olympic Committee in October 2023 and sets a new chapter in the sport’s Olympic history.
Pentathlon GB has enjoyed tremendous success at international level including seven medals at the past six Olympic Games. Kate French and Joe Choong, the current men’s World Champion, both won gold at the rescheduled Tokyo Games in 2021.
